Trenton, NJ – April 13, 2017-

The rapidly growing, statewide, progressive, grassroots group, Action Together New Jersey (ATNJ) is a proud sponsor of the upcoming March for Science in Trenton, NJ on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd. Scientists, supporters of science and scientific research, environmentalists, medical professionals, educators, religious leaders, and other advocates for evidence-based polices will march in Trenton in solidarity with the March for Science in Washington D.C. and the over 420 other satellite marches being held simultaneously around the United States and around the world. The event will kick-off promptly at 10am – outdoors at the War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive, Trenton, NJ 08608.

The event begins with a speaking program at 10am. Speakers include NJ March for Science founder Matthew Buckley, Jeff Tittel, Executive Director of the NJ Sierra Club, former NJ Governor James Florio, Laura Overdeck, Vice Chair- Board of Trustees of Liberty Science Center and Founding Member of the Women’s Leadership Council, NJ State Assemblyman (LD16) and Physicist at Princeton Plasma Physics Labs, Andrew Zwicker, among others. Immediately following the speaking program, participants will then march 1/2 mile to the steps of the State House Annex to hear a call-to-action.

Participants in this peaceful and non-partisan march are motivated by many concerns,
from climate change to medical research to education to human rights. They are united by a common belief that science can be a powerful tool to improve the nation and the lives of the people living in it. Participants will use their collective voice to advocate for the continued use of scientific evidence in how our government makes decisions; for the education of the next generation of scientists, and for the protection of the rights of free expression and movement enjoyed by all Americans and which have supported the nation’s scientific community.

Members of Action Together New Jersey are marching together to voice their concerns over potential cuts to the proposed federal budget which would impact scientific research, discovery, education, innovation, and development.

“Action Together New Jersey is proud to sponsor the New Jersey March for Science in Trenton on Earth Day. As an organization, we recognize the importance of science and scientific research. Every one of us, regardless of our values, religious beliefs, or where we stand on the political spectrum, benefits from science on a daily basis. Science is the cornerstone of all innovation and discovery. Literally everything that we interact with throughout the course of our daily lives is the result of innovation, development, and research. We, as a country, have been at the forefront of innovation and have made tremendous advancements. If funding for education, scientific research, innovation, and development gets slashed, we are at great risk as a nation and as a civilization. We are marching to speak truth to power.” Moira Nelson, spokesperson for Action Together New Jersey, Bloomfield, NJ

Other sponsors of the NJ March for Science include Environment NJ, The Association for Women in Science- New Jersey Chapter, NOW Northern NJ Chapter, the Sierra Club- New Jersey, among others.

ABOUT ACTION TOGETHER NEW JERSEY:

How We Began

The 2016 election inspired millions of Americans to fight for the progressive values that they believe in. Action Together New Jersey, part of the grassroots national network, Action Together Network (ATN), was formed as thousands of New Jersey residents banded together to help secure a more inclusive and progressive future for our state and our country.

Who We Are

We are a growing grassroots group from all over the Garden State. We share a passion for equal rights, for progressive ideals, and for building a brighter future for all Americans. We are your neighbors, your friends, and your coworkers. And while we don’t always see eye to eye on every issue (just look at the pork roll/Taylor ham divide), we combine our talents, our smarts, and our scrappy, underdog mentality to make Jersey Strong—and our nation stronger.

A few of the causes we value and fight for include:
Racial Justice, Reproductive Rights, Environmental Concerns, Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, Common Sense Gun Laws, Immigration, Education, Healthcare, Social Services, Criminal Justice Reform, Electoral Reform, Finance and Economic Reform, smart Foreign Policy, Workers’ Rights, Civil Rights Protection and Expansion, and Military and Veterans Issues.

What We Do

We fight for civil liberties, social justice, and environmental protection.
We advocate for equality and human rights for all people.
We protect those who face discrimination, disenfranchisement, and persecution.
We fight for legislation that helps the working class, and supports equal pay and a living wage for all workers.
We support and collaborate with existing advocacy groups who share our beliefs.
We will fight to elect progressive leaders who share our values.
And we will fight against elected officials who don’t.

To accomplish these goals, we look for ways to organize and take action, through working with (or against) our representatives, organizing rallies and boycotts, sponsoring social justice projects, and collaborating with other advocacy groups we believe in to help bring about the change we want to see.

Mission Statement

We’re a growing grassroots group of like-minded individuals in the Garden State who have banded together to support progressive values and ideals, advocate for equality and human rights, and help elect leaders who share our views.
