Democratic Party Basics

Positions within the Democratic Party, NOT government:
STATE COMMITTEE
MALE/FEMALE MEMBER OF COUNTY COMMITTEE

The Democratic Party system (Sussex County*):

1. Declare yourself as a member of the Democratic Party: English version here
http://www.nj.gov/state/elections/form_pdf/party-affiliation-form.pdf

2 . First, to become a member of the (Democratic) County Committee, get a petition from the County Clerk and get enough signatures (2*) to qualify to get on the ballot. Get elected.

NOTE: Once you are a member of the Democratic County Committee, you get to vote and elect a Democratic County Chair. This is by a vote within the party that does NOT appear on a ballot for everyday citizens or everyday Democratic party members.

3. You can also get on the ballot as a member of (Democratic) State Committee. Get a petition from the County Clerk and get enough signatures (100*) to qualify to get on the ballot. (For write-ins, you need 10* write-ins to get on the ballot in the fall.) State Committee members get to vote on what goes on within the Democratic Party at the state level.

NOTE: The Democratic County Chair gets to pick who gets the “party line” for the Democratic Party positions.

To impact change in the Democratic Party, join it, get elected, and add your voice.

*May differ in other counties. Check with your County Clerk.
