Call for NJ Election Reform & Racial Justice #Incarceration

A2937

URGENT: Call NOW for election reform and racial justice in New Jersey! The vote is TODAY!

GOAL: Call your 2 NJ State Assemblymen to tell them they should vote ‘YES’ on Assembly Bill #2937 that will require incarcerated individuals to be counted at their actual residential address for purposes of legislative redistricting.

DEADLINE: Today, May 22, 2017

HOW: Find your NJ State Assemblymen and Phone Numbers here – https://tinyurl.com/3ar4m8
[REMINDER: Each Legislative District has 2 Assemblymen. Please call BOTH.]

SCRIPT: “My name is [your name] in [ZIP code] calling as a constituent of Assemblyman [your NJ State Assemblyman]. I am asking for him/her to support bill A2937 to require incarcerated individuals to be counted at their actual residential address for purposes of legislative redistricting.”

REASON: This bill will end the current unfair and racially biased practice of counting people as residing in the place where they are incarcerated rather than the place they actually call “home.” Gerrymandering in this instance strips much needed resources from being allocated where prisoners in fact live.
