The Sussex County Chapter of Action Together NJ is sponsoring a March for Public Education on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at The Green in Newton, NJ. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Promoting public education through peaceful demonstration and action, the members of March for Public Education aim to advance policy and recursively address issues of equity, inclusion, accountability, well-funded institutions, and the right to organize.

The March for Public Education believes that schools should be safe, inclusive spaces for learning and critical thinking, where all children can discover their passion(s) and role(s) as citizens. Equity in schools includes allowing all students to enter the classroom on equal footing. This includes the use of special educators, social workers, school psychiatrists and countless other professionals who are critical to creating an equitable school culture. Public school must strive to be a safe space for all students, and schools must be held accountable in the fight for equity. A well-funded public education is a right of all children, and for-profit institutions motivated by their drive for capital are not helping children realize their full identity.

Who We Are

We are the largest grassroots group in NJ and we are growing every day as NJ citizens join to fight for our values. We share a passion for equal rights, for progressive ideals, and for building a brighter future for all Americans. We are your neighbors, your friends, and your coworkers. And while we don’t always see eye to eye on every issue (just look at the pork roll/Taylor ham divide), we are residents banded together to help secure a more inclusive and progressive future for our state and our country. We invite you to join us and to be at the forefront of that change.  ATNJ is part of the grassroots national network, Action Together Network (ATN), which numbers around 750,000 grassroots members nationwide.

A few of the causes we value and fight for include:

Racial Justice, Reproductive Rights, Environmental Concerns, Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, Common Sense Gun Laws, Immigration, Education, Healthcare, Social Services, Criminal Justice Reform, Electoral Reform, Finance and Economic Reform, Smart Foreign Policy, Workers’ Rights, Civil Rights Protection and Expansion, and Military and Veterans Issues.
