ATNJ MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN GRAND IFTAR EVENT
July 4, 2017 –
Action Together NJ members were honored to support our Muslim-American brothers and sisters at the Grand Iftar dinner at the Marriott Teaneck at Glenpointe in Teaneck, NJ, on June 11, 2017. The event, hosted by the Eid Committee of New Jersey, included members of the Muslim community and people from the political and interfaith communities to help inspire peace and tolerance among all human beings. Action Together NJ members were inspired by the great words of Essma Bengabsia, President of The Muslim Network, keep doing our part to ensure that there is justice for all, not just for some.
Executive Director and Co-Founder of ATNJ, Uyrn Khuong, noted that “the leaders of the grassroots movement nationwide have to take more intentional concrete steps to be more inclusive of our brothers and sisters in the Muslim American community. Action Together NJ is humbled to stand with our Muslim members in the fight against Islamophobia and to do our part to speak out and to speak up when we see injustice.”
Action Together NJ members in attendance included Executive Director and Co-Founder Uyen Khuong; Co-Chair from Action Together NJ-Sussex County, Erin Jacobus; Action Together NJ-Passaic County, Stephanie Navarro Silvera; Action Together NJ-Bergen County, Marthe Cherubin; Website Director, Kim Baron; LD 37 lead with the Blue 40 initiative, Scott Baron, and lead with Civil Rights, JoAnn Richmond Hinksmon; and Action Together NJ member running for State Assembly for LD 39, Jannie Chung and her campaign manager, Jimmy Chae.
ABOUT ACTION TOGETHER NEW JERSEY:
Who We Are
We are the largest grassroots group in NJ and we are growing every day as NJ citizens join to fight for our values. We share a passion for equal rights, for progressive ideals, and for building a brighter future for all Americans. We are your neighbors, your friends, and your coworkers. And while we don’t always see eye to eye on every issue (just look at the pork roll/Taylor ham divide), we are residents banded together to help secure a more inclusive and progressive future for our state and our country. We invite you to join us and to be at the forefront of that change. ATNJ is part of the grassroots national network, Action Together Network (ATN), which numbers around 750,000 grassroots members nationwide.
A few of the causes we value and fight for include:
Racial Justice, Reproductive Rights, Environmental Concerns, Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, Common Sense Gun Laws, Immigration, Education, Healthcare, Social Services, Criminal Justice Reform, Electoral Reform, Finance and Economic Reform, Smart Foreign Policy, Workers’ Rights, Civil Rights Protection and Expansion, and Military and Veterans Issues.
