Congratulations to Moira Nelson on her appointment to the Bloomfield Commission on Civil Rights
January 25, 2018
Moira Nelson of Action Together New Jersey has just been appointed to the Bloomfield Commission on Civil Rights.
The Bloomfield Commission on Civil Rights works to promote equal justice for all residents. The Commission fosters trust and respect between Bloomfield’s leaders, its law enforcement community, and the public. The group sponsors educational programs and events and recommends policy initiatives.
Ms. Nelson’s role as Director of Drug Policy Reform for Action Together New Jersey reflects her commitment to the perspective that drug use is best addressed primarily as a public health issue. The criminal justice “War on Drugs” has resulted in disproportionate effects on people of color although drug use rates are similar across racial groups. Ms. Nelson has testified at the NJ Statehouse to support legislative change in this area. She participated in the 2017 International Drug Policy Reform Conference in Atlanta, learning new strategies for advocacy and effective, fair drug policy.
Moira Nelson, resident of Bloomfield, serves her community as a member of Bloomfield Pride and is a commissioner on the Bloomfield Beautification Committee. Her efforts with the Commission on Civil Rights further reflect her passion for justice. Action Together NJ congratulates Ms. Nelson on her appointment.
