For Immediate Release:
ATNJ sends letter requesting Ways and Means Ranking member Richard Neal to support Congressman Pascrell for Trade Subcommittee Chair
MADISON, NJ, December 7, 2018 – Action Together New Jersey (ATNJ), New Jersey’s statewide, 18,000+ member progressive organization, sent the following letter to Congressman Richard Neal, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee:
November 9, 2018
The Honorable Richard Neal
Ways and Means Committee
United States House of Representatives 1102 Longworth House Office Building Washington, DC 20515
Dear Ranking Member Neal,
We, the members of Action Together New Jersey (ATNJ), kindly ask the Ways and Means Committee’s Democratic leadership to support Congressman Pascrell’s request to chair the Trade Subcommittee. If selected for the position, we believe Congressman Pascrell will execute the duties of the office with purpose and integrity, while working tirelessly for the advancement of American workers and industries.
As a progressive grassroots organization, one of ATNJ’s core tasks is to identify strategies that will strengthen our nation’s economy and allow all participants to reap the benefits of their labor. Since the House will be under Democratic control beginning in 2019, we believe this subcommittee will be thrust into the forefront of any conversations regarding the Trump Administration’s trade efforts. As the Congressman mentioned when he was named Ranking Member of the subcommittee in January 2017, we expect Mr. Pascrell to continue to hold the Administration accountable and ensure they fulfill their lofty promises of supporting domestic job creation and economic growth. Further, Congressman Pascrell’s representation of the diverse local economy of New Jersey’s 9th Congressional district has given him a unique understanding of how a trade decision or policy may impact struggling working families, as well as the potential for prosperity when a system works for all those involved.
To reiterate, we strongly support Mr. Pascrell’s request to chair the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade and look forward to working with you to move the United States economy forward. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or comments.
